The Most Inspiring Locations for Your Next Team Building Day

As a luxury chauffeur service we’ve transported many groups to team building venues in and around Auckland, and we’ve seen first-hand the smiles on their faces and the bonds that are evident after a few hours spent together doing something enjoyable. Over the years we’ve become quite familiar with all the possible team building activities near Auckland, so we’ve curated a list of the most inspiring outdoor and indoor team building activities in Auckland to motivate, connect or reward your team.

Sculptureum

Matakana

Allow your team to connect to their creative side with a visit to the fascinating Sculptureum at Matakana. This venue boasts an incredible collection of art across three gardens and six galleries, from life-size sculptures of breaching whales to colourful, more abstract works created by artists from all around the world. Your team will have a glorious time wandering around the gardens and galleries, discussing their favourite pieces and perhaps even drawing inspiration for a project of their own.

It will take a couple of hours to make your way around all the exhibits, but there are three eateries and a vineyard on site offering an array of delicious meals and refreshments. Dine indoors at Rothko restaurant or park up at the Terrace Lawn Bar for some drinks and a tasty grazing platter. A day at the Sculptureum is an ideal way to reward your time and allow for bonding outside of the office.

Urupukapuka Island

Bay of Islands

If your workplace loves a bit of healthy competition (and perhaps a spot of reality TV), check out the team building packages on offer by Blah Blah Marketing! Our favourite is centred on Urupukapuka Island, just a 40-minute ferry ride from Russell or Paihia, where teams take part in a series of physical and mental ’Survivor-style’ challenges in their quest to be crowned the champions.

Teams will be challenged to utilise the island’s resources, unravel clues and work effectively together to complete the tasks set. They’ll practice communication, problem-solving, planning and trust skills, and get the opportunity to learn more about their team members while they uncover new strengths and have an absolute ball along the way. And the best part is the package will be fully tailored to your workplace! What more could you want in a team-building activity?!

Hobbiton

Matamata

About two hours from Auckland is Hobbiton, the world-famous film set used for The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies. Most people think of Hobbiton as simply a tourist attraction, but you might be surprised to learn that there are fun venues here available for hire that could be the perfect setting for your next Auckland team building activity.

You can start off with a movie set tour (it would be rude not to, right?!) and then make your way to one of the on-site buildings for a meal, meeting, workshop, training or team-building exercise. The Millhouse is one site that has recently opened up for private events; a fully-themed stand-alone venue with a licensed bar and an authentic middle-earth feel. Or if you need a more functional meeting space that isn’t strictly ‘hobbit-themed, The Hub can accommodate up to 130 people theatre-style with AV equipment provided.

A trip down to Hobbiton might tick all the boxes for your next team-building activity, combining a little bit of fun and adventure with a space to allow you to achieve some specific goals.
